Foster Adoptive and Residential Committee (FAR)
Join us for the May 16th Foster/Adoption/Residential (FAR) meeting where we will hear from a panel of speakers talk...about both federal and state efforts to move the child welfare field toward implementation of evidence-based programs. As part of their presentation you will hear about a unique public-private partnership occurring in the field of child abuse prevention and family strengthening which is helping community-based providers successfully implement a range of evidence-based programs with funding and support for fidelity and performance measurement. Kristin O'Connor and Kevin Kelley from the NC Division of Social Services (NCDSS), Phil Redmond from The Duke Endowment (TDE) and Sarah Currier from Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina (PCANC) will talk about the partnership between their agencies to support effective implementation of family strengthening programs, and FAR participants will have an opportunity to hear and discuss lessons learned - lessons that can be translated to the fields of child welfare and mental health. Benchmarks members - including Thompson Children's Home, Surry County Home for Children, and Children's Home Society - will also participate in the panel to talk about their work in implementing evidence-based programs with support from NCDSS, TDE, and PCANC. Other Benchmarks members - who are implementing other evidence-based intervention and treatment models -- are encouraged to join the discussion to talk about their experiences in implementation, the resources that are needed to do this work well, and what Benchmarks need to advocate for with regard to funding and policy changes to align with evidence-based program implementation.
In addition, the FAR meeting agenda includes:
· Updates on current initiatives like the Partnership and Performance Workgroup that is developing a "public/private toolkit" to support increased focus on performance and quality, the IV-E waiver application, the Foster Parent Screening and Training...Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM
